Family bike camping is much more accessible than you might think, especially when two ready-to-camp campgrounds are connected by a safe cycling route.
It’s an affordable adventure designed for little legs, while offering plenty of opportunities to stay active through a variety of outdoor activities.
All it takes is a little planning. One great option is a campground-to-campground ride from Sainte-Catherine to Boucherville (about 30 kilometres) on Montréal’s South Shore, with the St. Lawrence River as your constant companion throughout the journey.
Even better, both destinations offer ready-to-camp accommodations.
RécréoParc
In Sainte-Catherine, the RécréoParc is a vast natural and ecological park where wildlife, plant life, history, and recreation come together.
Families will find everything they need for a memorable stay, including a beach and swimming area, inflatable games, birdwatching, cycling, and much more.

The campground features tent platforms as well as sites for vanlifers.
The RécréoParc is located directly along the St. Lawrence Seaway bike path. When it’s time to pack up and head for your next destination, you’ll enjoy riding on a freshly resurfaced trail. The entire section was repaved in 2025.
Cyclists can now enjoy 13.4 kilometres of wide, fully modernized cycling path.
The route offers plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the St. Lawrence River and the Seaway. If you’re lucky, you may even spot an ocean-going cargo ship navigating from one lock to another.
Impressive Samuel De Champlain Bridge
One highlight is guaranteed. As your family approaches and rides beneath the impressive Samuel De Champlain Bridge, its towering structure is sure to leave everyone in awe. Be sure to have your cameras ready!

The route then continues through Saint-Lambert and Longueuil. To your left, you’ll enjoy views of Montréal’s skyline, La Ronde amusement park, and the city’s bustling harbour.
Once again, you’ll benefit from recently upgraded cycling infrastructure. The René-Lévesque Promenade has been completely redeveloped in recent years, making it much safer and more enjoyable to ride. It can, however, become busy in certain areas, so extra caution is recommended.
As you approach Boucherville, elegant historic homes line portions of the route.
This is also where you can board the river shuttle to Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville. The crossing takes about 15 minutes and is free for Boucherville residents and children under five.
In the middle of the St. Lawrence River
Located in the middle of the St. Lawrence River, this archipelago of five small islands forms Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville. The park features green spaces, wildlife-filled channels, and scenic waterfront trails.

Cyclists, hikers, and paddlers alike come here to enjoy fresh air and nature. Despite being only minutes from downtown Montréal, the park feels like a peaceful escape from the city’s hustle and bustle.
Tent campers will find campsites nestled among forests, wetlands, and riverside landscapes. The campground offers 50 sites equipped with amenities such as fire pits with cooking grates, wildlife-proof food lockers, picnic tables, bicycle racks, potable water, and modern washroom facilities.
For those choosing the ready-to-camp option, 25 fully equipped accommodations are available and easily accessible by foot or by bike. Simply bring your luggage, sleeping bags or bedding, and food.
Everything else is already waiting for you.
To make your adventure even easier, Voyager à vélo also offers its luggage transfer service between the RécréoParc in Sainte-Catherine and Parc national des Îles-de-Boucherville. Simply ride with your daily essentials while your luggage is transported to your next campground.
It’s an easy and stress-free way to discover family bike camping—without having to carry all of your camping gear.
